Masago Baptist Church suffered significant flooding in its semi-basement sanctuary as a result of the record-breaking heavy rains in August 2026.
This page will provide ongoing updates on the extent of the damage, the recovery process, our next steps, and ways you can support the church.
Current Situation
The record-breaking heavy rains of August 13–14, 2026, flooded our semi-basement sanctuary to a depth of approximately 60 cm (about 2 feet) above the floor. Chairs, the pulpit, and other furnishings, as well as audio equipment, the organ, the piano, and many other items were submerged.
With the help of many people, we were able to drain the sanctuary, remove damaged items, and carry out initial cleaning. However, water still remains beneath the floor and under the raised area at the front of the sanctuary. A full assessment and further work by professional contractors have yet to begin, and at this point, we do not know the full extent of the repairs that will be necessary.
The sanctuary is currently unusable. For the time being, we have prepared an unaffected space on the first floor, where we continue to gather for Sunday worship.
The road to recovery will take time, but with the support of many people, we are continuing to take each necessary step forward.

Support Us
We are currently carrying out assessments and taking the necessary steps toward restoring the sanctuary. Significant expenses are expected in the months ahead, including repairs to the building and the replacement of furnishings and equipment damaged by the flood.
This was the second time our church has experienced flooding, following a previous flood in 2010. In light of this, we have begun prayerfully considering not only how to recover from the present damage, but also how best to use our current church building in the years ahead.
No specific decisions have been made at this time. Rather than simply restoring everything to the way it was before, we want to prayerfully seek the best way forward so that we can continue to worship together and serve our community safely for years to come.
Masago Baptist Church is receiving financial gifts to support our recovery from the flood and the future ministry of the church. All gifts will be used carefully for the restoration of the damaged sanctuary, the replacement of necessary equipment and furnishings, and to help sustain the church’s ministry as we move forward.
